fiesta!!

who would'nt miss a fiesta in their barangay? it's only here in the Philippines! fiesta is a gathering of every barangay where they decorate banderitas and have games, contest, foods, and of course, inuman! it is also a much awaited event in every year.

Basta drayber, swit laber!

Quiapo! Quiapo! Rotonda! Ma,para!

You can hear all of these inside the jeepney. Everyday, passengers went to their destinations by means of transportation like buses, trains, tricycles and of course, the jeepney. It is deffinitely our national transportation. Different colors of jeepney can be seen everywhere here in the Philippines. By this, you can travel to different places in a very cheap fair. Especially when you're a studyante or a senior citizen. And of course, who would not know the famous saying of the jeepney drivers! "basta driver, sweet lover!"

Pamahiin

Most of us Filipinos believe in different "pamahiin" of our lolo's and lola's. According to them, we should follow it to prevent bad luck. Some of this pamahiin's are:

1. When you go to a wake, don't go straight at home because it can bring bad luck.
2. Sukob (a superstition of getting married within a year of her father's death)
3. When there's a nuno sa punso, one must say, "tabi tabi po"

4. Don't clean the table if somone is still eating. The elder say's that "baka hindi ka mag ka asawa"

PInoy Games??

PInoy Games before usually consists of minumum of two persons per game. If you will be asking some of the traditional Filipino games that children will play, you will notice that they usually play with a palymate/s. Patintero, trumpo, tumbang preso, and the like are games we can refer to as the "larong kalye". Theses are the games handed down by our grandparents. these play are usually played by groups. But in our generation, you can seldom see these kind of games playing by children. Children nowadays are more violent as compared before. One of the reasons is that FIlipino children are exposed to new technology that the generation offers. They are fond of playing computer games, such as Counter-strike, DOTA, Ragnarok, and the like, which we will find violent enough for a five year old kid.

Balikbayan Boxes

Filipinos are known to be generous and we cannot deny it. This culture of the Filipinos has being practiced way back before until now. Balik-bayan boxes can be seen in any outlet of the National Bookstore or in some places where people come to buy gifts and pasalubong. Especially those family relatives who are staying in abroad, Expect to see a huge box when they come home.

another thing is that Filipinos are fond also of bringing anything like food, drinks, or a small gifts when visiting a relative or a friend. Even a pack of peanut will be fine to bring in for a small talk with along time friend.

'Suportahan ta ka'

we all know that the kids in our generation is very westernized. Most of them as we notice are very liberated. thats why some parents, (even if they dont like) will choose to be more strict and tough on them. But in some cases despite of this, some parents however, will still prefer a more consultative and supportive approach, and even appreciate it when their kids show independence.

Some values are being shaped by commercials like the "Suportahan Ta Ka" (I will support you) commercial of PLDT where a father "allows" his son to take up Fine Arts course.

videoke kings and queens

Filipinos love to sing and also, Filipinos have lovely voice. They will spend some of there free time singing in the karaoke with their kainuman, kaibigan or family because of our great passion in singing. It is one way to relax and to get along with others. Karaoke would be one of the things that Filipinos do for entertainment.

kiti-kitext

Filipinos are the top most texter in the whole world. Believe it or not, we spend almost half of the day texting through our cellphones. Or sometimes, teenagers mostly text even late at nights and still, they don't feel sleepy. So why do Filipinos text alot? because it is alot more cheaper than having a call. Plus, there are now unlimited text all day!

This only shows than communication has been a lot more easier, unlike before you are only able to contact a person through snail mail or telegram, but now you get to call and text them anytime you miss them. SIMPLY AMAZING!!

Mga engkanto

Filipino's imagination are truly wide and creative. There imaginations reaches to create super natural beings that are out of this world and some believe that these creatures that we called, "engkanto" really do exsist.

A tikbalang is a half-human half-horse creature. Resides on Balete trees, beside a hot spring, nipa grove, or pitcher plant.

A sirena is also a famous mythological creature. Also known as a dyesebel. It is a half-human and half-fish.

kapres are giant creatures. They reside on tress with wide trunk and have a circular leaves, abandoned houses and ruined buildings. They smoke tobacco and are believed to be docile creatures.

Filipinos also created stories about this super natural beings which were made into comics and movies like Darna, Pedro Penduko, Panday and many more. Of course, tha battle between good and evil. But the good one's always wins. These proves that the Filipino's imagination are really wide.

TeleNOVELAs and Noontime Shows

This is what I have noticed on the Filipinos now a day. Everyone seems to be so hooked with these noontime shows like wowowee, eatbulaga. "Kulang nalang ay sambahin nila ang mga host ng show na ito, tipong ipagpapatayan nila para lang makapunta doon at kayang kaya nilang matulog at magantay magdamag sa iniidolo nila."

A lot really join this type of contests to be able to get money out of it for their living. This is where they get money to start of, plus enjoying the company of their favorite show hosts. However they put too much devotion on all these things that it seems to me they are worshiping it as if its their only salvation towards poverty. Is this reall because of poverty? or this is how greedy we Filipinos are for money?

Another thing that Filipinos get really hooked on, is the different tele-novelas that come poping out on every networks. they get so hooked on these type of stories that they put it into reality.

They believe in it and they apply and relate it to their daily lifestyle which sometimes turns out in a wrong way. They cry about it and get to affected on it that they forget the more important things that they should be doing rather than being too emotional about what they are watching.

Children who are able to watch traumatic scenes and morbid scenes actually tend to copy it for it is what they see and they think is right. Telenovelas are only to inspire viewers not to actually influence them on what they should be doing.
I know, these telenovelas aim to satisfy and for their viewers to enjoy the show but i think too much addiction on it will lead them to a different situation.

Kasaysayan ng pamilyang Pinoy

Filipino families from then to now are very famous not only because of their hospitality but Filipino families are very close to their ties. Most Filipino families live together with their lolo's and lola's. Some with their relatives. They have always many members in the house and that's why Filipinos are unique and its so homy to stay with them.

Filipino families also celebrates different ocassions together. It is really different and unique when ocassions like Christmas, are celebrated in the Filipino way.

Filipino childrens are respectful from then up to now. They still exercise their values of saying "po,opo, mano po" to their elders.

These are some characteristics of the Filipino families that are excercise from the past up to the present and for the future because we can all say that "ayan ang tatak Pinoy!"
