We came from a very traditional culture. The Father as being the head of the family, who always makes the last say or what we call the last decision in the family, they are the once that are much more powerful and always to be followed. they get to study and work while the mothers are to stay at home and take care of their young. and the Mother, as the in-charge of raising the children, she is also the one to do the household works.
Children are to obey what ever their parents say, may it be right or wrong, fair or unfair, they must follow what is commanded or else, great punishment is to be done. Great courage is what it takes for the children of the past. Disgrace and failure are what a child is considered if he/she disobeys.
But nowadays, in our generation, only few of the families are with this type of system. As we can notice in some families, Mother becomes the head of the family and father is only the secondary especially in cases where the mother is the primary source of the family in terms of income. Children seems to be very aware of the matters that way back before cannot be mentioned.
How does the family today differ from the family before? Has it brought good effects? or has it torn the communication apart? Here are some of the changes and differences of the Filipino Family Portrait of today as compared to the Traditional Filipino Family.
